Why I can’t get a steak on Sunday Morning (Hebrews 5:12, I Corinthians 3:2)

What Makes Me Excited to Come to Church
Over the years, I am convinced that I am a carnal Christian. Not exactly like 1 Corinthians 3, but in the sense that I am carnivorous.
I come to church expecting a steak. But that doesn’t always happen. The church world doesn’t revolve around me. I get what ever the pastor cooks up. He may feel its time for spaghetti, an enchilada or it might be chocolate milk. The reason for this kind of variety is that pastors face a congregation of many needs: saved, unsaved, new converts, people who have been sitting in the same pew for 50 years and Bible nerds like me. Pastors hope that by the end of the year, everyone’s needs might be met. But that doesn’t happen. Pastors face the daunting problem of a diverse audience by most often preaching to the lowest common denominator. That way the pastor is not preaching over everyone’s heads. But that doesn’t help me with a need to grow with a fresh word from God. That’s the problem with carnivorous Christians who are looking for steaks every Sunday.
The reason I am writing this blog is to cook some steaks pastors can’t. Some meat of the Word is better eaten away from church where people feel more free to ask questions and have more time than a limited Sunday morning Bible study to answer.
The theme of this blog is simple: why you are a new creation in Christ. News flash: many Christians do not know a fundamental spiritual change happened to them when they got saved. And that change broadens and infiltrates every segment of your life and cell in your body over time.
